*don't use red dye for hummingbird feed, it is not necessary. this particular feeder included red nectar w/ the purchase. there is no proof that red dye harms the hummers, but it is not needed. i suggest using 1/4 cup of sugar for every cup of water. boil the mixture, and refrigerate any usused portion. let cool before setting outside. change often, and use a small feeder. - sv
